Engineered wood
flooring is a product
made up of hardwood, plywood and/or
soft plywood type of material in multiple thin ply
layers that are glued together usually in 2 to 7 layers.
The top layer (wear layer) of the hardwood is available
in almost any hardwood
domestic or
exotic species. This allows the product to have
natural characteristics of real wood floor as opposed to
a photographic layer seen in laminates. The engineered
design provides greater
stability,
particularly where moisture concerns like basements,
high humidity areas and/or heat (under
floor heating-radiant heating) problems that are
concerns for other solid hardwood flooring products.
Recoating is easy and cost effective and is
strongly recommended when wear starts to occur. Most
Engineered wood floors come prefinished. Some engineered
wood floors can be
sanded and refinished according to the thickness
of the top wear layer of wood.
